The 49th annual "Iron Bowl" lived up to its billing as the underdog Crimson Tide claimed its sweetest win of the season, a 17-15 decision over the Tigers at Legion Field. The Auburn Tigers got the game's first points when Bo Jackson scored on a two yard run at the 6:15 mark of the 1st Quarter. Alabama then tied the score in the second Qtr. when Paul Ott Carruth tallied on a six yard run with 14:19 left in  the first half. (3rd Quarter)Carruth scored his second touchdown at the 11:51 mark and Van Tiffin kicked 52-tard field goal at the 5:09 mark. (Bama 17-7). The fourth quarter saw on one score. Auburn tallied on a 60-yard run by halfback Brent Fullwood with 9:11 left to play. What the fourth quarter did see was a strong goal-line stand by the Alabama defense with 3:27 to play. The Tigers started at the Tide 17 following an interception and six plays later were faced with a fourth-and-goal at the Bama one. On fourth down the Tigers sent Fullwood around right end and he was met by freshman defensive back Rory Turner for a loss of three-to preserve the victory.

Shula hit 9 of 13 passes for 136 yards and 2 TD's. A win of the magnitude of this one produces heroes galore. Alabama's offensive line, freshman tailback Gene Jelks, wide receivers Al Bell, and Greg Richardson. and a swarming, hard hitting defense all deserve praise.
It was Alabama's plan to win the football game by playing sound defense and establishing the running game. That was almost playing it too close to the vest. Alabama Played good defense and Alabama did establish the running game but Alabama won the game because Shula hit nine of 13 passes ,including a 17 - yarder to Bell for a touchdown with 15 seconds to play. You can't think you're beaten until the game is over, and we didn't."

This is a DVD of the game Alabama vs Auburn Nov 30 1985 played in Legion Field Birmingham won by Alabama 25 to 23. Shula hit 14 of 28 passes for 195 yards. A win of the magnitude of this one produces heroes galore. Alabama's offensive line, freshman tailback Gene Jelks, wide receivers Al Bell, Greg Richardson and Clay Whitehurst and a swarming, hard hitting defense all deserve praise. Van Tiffin didn't get carried off the field on the shoulders of his teammates just because he's the easiest Tider to tote. His winning field goal will be remembered for as long as Alabama-Auburn game stories are retold-which will be forever. But save the BIGGEST hand for quarterback Mike Shula. Since the T-formation was devised, big football games regularly have been won by quarterbacks. Junior Shula, poise personified, didn't score a point and didn't pass for a touchdown, but he directed a once-in-a-lifetime winning drive. And it's the second time he's done it that season. Shula said as he went into the game with 57 seconds left, 80 yards from the Auburn goal, that it wasn't the situation he would have wanted, "but we've been in that situation before. You can't think you're beaten until the game is over, and we didn't." Our Head Coach Mike Shula was the Quarterback of this team This is a DVD of the complete ALABAMA VS AUBURN GAME televised November 30 1985 won by Alabama 25-23 on Tiffin's 52 yard field goal on the last play of the game.
